Weddings & Wire is the brainchild of artisan sculptor Eric Zabriskie, who invented the wire and free-hanging nail polish technique he calls "shaped stained-glass," that is the basis of his work. After developing this technique, his first cake topper was done as a gift for his sisters wedding, and as orders began coming in, Eric seized on the opportunity to join the exciting custom/handmade movement. The shop specializes in dynamic and unique sculptural cake toppers with custom elements, as well as one-of-a-kind cake toppers, made in direct collaboration with the couple. The cake toppers of Weddings & Wire often compare marriage to an adventure- flying behind a motorcycle, on a plane pulled by doves, on a boat through a wild forest, or in a basket lifted by balloons. Sometimes the bride and groom can be found chasing something ideal, that perfect love, represented by a giant dragonfly or butterfly. Frequently the work contains fantastical elements and a disregard for the laws of physics, symbolizing love as something mysterious & magical. This is "a way of using tangible objects to display & describe something intangible," as Eric puts it. These make real conversation pieces and I'm sure great keepsakes! |
